Hello everyone!
Let's do a quick review to help us with today's point.
Do you remember?
------------------------------------------------------------------
"Excuse me. Do you have the time?"
"Yeah, it's a quarter past five."
"Pardon?"
"It's 5:15."
"Ok, thanks!"
------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you notice the new phrase? Last time I said telling time in English is easy, but sometimes we use words other than the actual hour and minute numbers. Here are some examples:
5:15 -> a quarter past (after) five
4:45 -> a quarter til five
**Quarter means 1/4. So a quarter of an hour is 15 mninutes. In our examples, it means 15 minutes after 5:00 and 15 minutes before 5:00.
8:30 -> half past eight
**Half mean 1/2. So a half an hour is 30 minutes. In this example, it means 30 minutes after 8:00.
12:00am -> midnight
12:00pm -> noon
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that's all for this time. I hope these tips are useful. Please try using them when you get a chance.
Today is this school year's last English point. But I'll see you again next year in April!! Take care!
